En los países democráticos desapareció aquella costumbre bárbara de castigar a pedradas según ordenaban la Biblia y el Corán. Después. En la Inquisición se estrangulaba en efigie o se quemaba a los pecadores.
En la época de la información global se sigue quemando y estrangulando en efigie, aunque ahora se haga de manera virtual. En plena era de la libertad de expresión y pensamiento, millones de inquisidores del nuevo Santo Oficio convierten internet en un campo de aplastacabezas y potros de tortura. Nunca se ha lapidado a tanta gente de manera anónima, nunca ha habido tantos linchamientos en la red, organizados por partidos, por sectas y servicios secretos de potencias extranjeras…
Éste es el siglo de oro del libelo y el pasquín. El ciberacoso, la violencia en las redes y la telebasura están invadiendo las escuelas, los parlamentos y la política. El ruido del populismo y la desinformación están cambiado las maneras del debate público.
Hace dos días, convirtieron las Cortes de Castilla y León en una cochiquera, en palabras de uno de los presentes. Estalló la bronca, después de una serie de enfrentamientos, cuando Juan García-Gallardo, de Vox, llamó imbécil a Francisco Igea, de Ciudadanos. El vicepresidente de las Cortes suspendió entonces la pelotera con este brillante discurso: «Suspendo la sesión y que se jodan».
Jesús Fernández Úbeda, el último gran cronista parlamentario, me dice: «Yo, que nunca vi atacar naves en llamas más allá de Orión, he visto a Rufián sacar unas balas en el Congreso, a un diputado de Vox pedirle a Marlaska que le escupa en la cara. Aunque el gran desolladero, la matanza de San Bartolomé, ha sido para los que firmaron pidiendo el indulto para Griñán.
