Adelantándose a la festividad de La Merced, este sábado 24 de septiembre, el Centro Penitenciario de Alcázar de San Juan ha celebrado, este viernes 23 de septiembre, una jornada festiva y de reconocimientos a varios de sus funcionarios, destacando la concesión, por parte de la Secretaria General de Instituciones Penitenciarias, de la Medalla de Plata al Mérito Penitenciario de la subdirectora de tratamiento, Miriam Pérez.
Una distinción que “reconoce su trayectoria, más de once años, su profesionalidad y su labor en pro de los 74 internos del Centro Penitenciario de Alcázar de San Juan”, tal y como ha explicado su director, Fernando Puerto, quien, tras felicitar a Miriam por este premio, ponía en valor la celebración de esta jornada festiva, tanto para los propios internos como para los más de 90 funcionarios.
Una jornada que pone punto y final a las distintas actividades y campeonatos que se han realizado a lo largo de las últimas semanas para conmemorar la festividad de la patrona de los centros penitenciarios, Nuestra Señora de la Merced.
Una cita a la que no han faltado los máximos responsables de los Cuerpos y Fuerzas de Seguridad del Estado y del gobierno de Alcázar de San Juan, encabezado por su alcaldesa, Rosa Melchor, quien ha felicitado la labor que desarrolla tanto Fernando Puerto como el resto del personal, con especial dedicatoria para Miriam Pérez, por su humanidad y cercanía y ha recordado, en un mensaje para los internos, que la reinserción real es posible.
Una mañana festiva en este centro penitenciario que se ha completado con la celebración de la Eucarística y con la entrega de reconocimientos y premios a los ganadores de los distintos campeonatos.
Breve historia del Centro Penitenciario de Alcázar de San Juan
El Centro Penitenciario de Alcázar de San Juan abre sus puertas por primera vez en el año 1968, tras el cierre de la anterior prisión ubicada en lo que hoy es el CEIP Jesús Ruiz.
Durante los primeros años y hasta 1975, fue una cárcel de mujeres custodiada por monjas. Posteriormente, pasaría a convertirse en una prisión de tercer grado para hombres.
En 1981 el centro cerraría sus puertas para acometer reformas en sus dependencias y no se reabriría hasta 1986 con el aspecto y la funcionalidad de hoy en día, pasando a ser una prisión de segundo grado, tal y como ha explicado el jefe de gabinete, Marcelino Casas, quien ha destacado la normalidad del día a día en el centro, la buena convivencia de internos y la ausencia de conflictos.
En la actualidad, el Centro Penitenciario de Alcázar de San Juan cuenta con 74 internos y un total de 92 funcionarios
