Hasta siete son las décadas que llevaba esperando Carlos III para convertirse en rey de Inglaterra, desde que en el 6 de febrero de 1952 fuera proclamado heredero al trono. Menos tiempo ha pasado desde que el entonces príncipe de Gales visitase Toledo, el 24 de abril de 1987: junto a su esposa Diana, hicieron un recorrido turístico por la ciudad con el acompañamiento de Juan Carlos I, la reina Sofía y las infantas Elena y Cristina.A lo largo de dicho recorrido Juan Carlos I hizo las veces de guía de los príncipes, mostrándoles algunos de los lugares más icónicos de la ciudad, y trasladándolos de un sitio a otro de la misma tanto a ellos como a la reina y a las infantas en una furgoneta que él conducía.Antes de que ambas familias reales terminaran por completar el recorrido a pie, en primer lugar, fueron recibidas sobre las 12:00 horas por el entonces presidente de Castilla-La Mancha, José Bono, y el delegado del Gobierno, Pedro Valdecantos, y después se desplazaron en la furgoneta hasta la catedral.Desde allí, caminaron hasta la Iglesia de Santo Tomé y prosiguieron por las callejuelas de la judería hasta dar con una zona de comercio en la que Carlos y Diana observaron y adquirieron algunos productos artesanales toledanos.Finalizando la visita, los príncipes de Gales, antes de emprender el vuelo hacia Granada, pudieron también contemplar la sinagoga del Tránsito y comer en el Parador. |
